When leading causes suffering
" In any case, the law stipulates that the employer must take the necessary measures to address psychosocial risks at work and prevent or limit the damage resulting from these risks"
In recent months, the theme has come up repeatedly in the media: here and there
The call for help was heard from employees who wanted to put an end to it
the harmful leadership culture in their workplace.
There is no doubt that toxic leadership has an impact that should not be underestimated.
Employees who suffer from toxic leadership experience increased stress and anxiety and develop low self-esteem.
"This can lead to serious health problems," ACLVB guidance counselors know.
At the corporate level, toxic leadership creates a work environment filled with fear.
reigns. The result: a decrease in employee involvement, a drop in productivity, a brake on innovation and a high staff turnover.
Sometimes employees attempt to master assertiveness techniques, with the intention of responding more decisively to their manager's communication style.
If you have been dealing with toxic suffering, it is important not to end up with this problem yourself. We certainly recommend that you raise the issue with your designated trusted person or tell your story in advance to the ACLVB representatives, you will be able to talk to them person to person.
Between work and family life
The start of the school year is fast approaching and the fragile balance between professional and family life will once again be put to the test.
At ING, you will be asked, if you have not already done so, to return to work at 50% capacity on site and in all departments!
As a reminder, we will therefore have to weigh up the advantages of working in the office (50%) and working from home (50%) and adapt our working hours.
Your union is thinking of you 😊 Here are some tips to avoid feeling overwhelmed quickly:
Sort your emails and start with the most recent. By right-clicking on an email in the list (without actually opening the email), you can select the "Find Related" option and view all related emails by subject or sender!
Estimate the time required for each task. Prescribe the number of hours required, exceed them if you deem it necessary, but set limits. Work at a reasonable pace, without risk of exhaustion.
Take regular breaks and don't forget to exercise. For example, take a 20-minute walk in the greenery and you will be refreshed!
If you are working from home, set strict rules. Your partner or children must respect the fact that you need to focus on your work.
There is life after work! So make sure your work commitments don’t interfere with your evenings.
If you receive emails or texts from work outside of work hours, protect yourself and set boundaries! For example, you may have two cell phone numbers and only use one for work.
Don’t compare yourself to your colleagues! Do what you need in the time you have to do it the way YOU plan. Our knowledge differs. Our skills too. We don’t all work the same way or at the same pace.
And that's good!
And above all, take care of yourself because you are worth it.
Well-being while working from home
A good spatial layout contributes to a better quality of life and promotes a pleasant working environment.
The following points are essential for a pleasant workplace:
Choose a desk with natural light and make sure there is no glare on your screen.
Use ergonomic equipment... If you received a budget to set up your home office 3 years ago, you will receive a new budget of €750 in the week of September 23 (see HR Communication email of 08/29). Note the number of years of depreciation, the number of years of use that ING takes into account and the fact that you cannot take 2 objects from the same category.
Before you rush out and buy equipment, consider a few ergonomic principles.
Good workplace design contributes to your well-being!
Make the most of available storage space.
Experience the joys of personalization... Surround yourself with little things that make you feel good! A photo that reminds you of a happy moment or the people you love can take the pressure off with just a glance. A personal mug or cup can also lift your spirits.
Greening the space with some plants... Not only does the sight of greenery have a calming effect, but certain plant species also help eliminate pollution.
Clean regularly... Overcrowded workplaces waste time and can even make it harder to concentrate.
